This would be great for parties, tailgates, breakfast or dinner. Don't you just love a versatile recipe.
1 lb. bulk sausage
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 c. chopped green pepper
1 t. minced garlic
1 8-oz. pkg cream cheese
1/4 c. chopped fresh mushrooms
1/4 c. grated parmesan cheese
1/4 c. water
1/4 t. dried oregano
1 l-lb. loaf of unsliced Italian bread
1 1/2 c. shredded mozzerella
In a large skillet, cook sausage, onion, green pepper and garlic over medium heat until there is no more pink in the meat; drain off any excess grease. Add cream cheese, mushrooms, parmesan cheese, water and oregano. Cook and stir until cheese is melted.
Cut bread in half horizontally; hollow out top and bottom leaving a 3/4 inch shell. Please bread bottom on baking sheet. Sprinkle with half of mozzerella cheese. Top with sausage mixture and remaining mozzerella. Add top. Bake 15 minutes at 350 until warmed through. Slice into 1 inch pieces for serving.
