Apple Nut Bread

I love this bread and it is perfect for fall.  It's quick and easy and tastes so good.

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. peeled, grated apples
2 c. flour
1/2 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
1 1/2 t. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to350.

In large stand mixer, beat together sugar and shortening.  Add in eggs, apples.  Beat until combined.  Add dry ingredients and mix to combine adding in buttermilk and vanilla at the very end.  Remove bowl from stand and gently fold in  walnuts.

Pour into greased loaf pan.  Sprinkle with 4t. sugar and 1/2 t. cinnamon.  Bake at 350 for 1hour.
